Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen Ski Areas
Explore these interconnected resorts
Also known as Echigo Fuji, reflecting both the old name of Niigata and Japan’s tallest mountain, Mt. Myoko is home to the area’s ski areas. The two areas of Akakura—Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen—are the oldest in the area, as well as some of the oldest in the nation. Here are a vast number of runs set into the beech forest, with runs ideal for skiers of all levels. The views of the valley and town below, as well as of Lake Nojiri and the Sea of Japan (even distant Sado Island when conditions are good) are breathtaking.

And with some of the heaviest snowfall in the world, the chances for deep powder sliding are very good indeed!

Season Roughly from mid/end-December to early May, depending on snow conditions
Area access 10 minutes by bus or taxi from Myokokogen Station. Both resorts run free shuttle buses between the two areas; the low-cost Myoko Shuttle bus runs between Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Ikenotaira Onsen and Myoko Suginohara ski areas.
